"Ear candy, ethereal, featherweight dance pop." - USA Today
"A fragile, wavering voice swaddled in shimmering synths that recall a
particularly bittersweet flavor of European '80s dance pop." - SPIN
Swedish electro-pop
duo Sally Shapiro has debuted a brand new single 'What Can
I Do' off their forthcoming Somewhere Else album,
out on February 26 with Paper Bag Records. The new album breaks the
synth-pop duo's silence as the first release since their 2009 full-length Guilty
Pleasure. Somewhere Else features Electric
Youth (known from the Drive soundtrack), Anoraak and Le
Prix. The duo's melancholic harmonies and the 80s disco feel are still
present, but there are also indie pop influences (á la Belle & Sebastian),
as well as touches of funk, IDM, trance, jazz and ambient. Shapiro says,
"The title describes the recurrent theme in the music and my life, to
somehow never be satisfied with what you have, or where you are - to always
wish you were somewhere else."
